Repentant Heart

A repentant heart wants more than just forgiveness.  A repentant heart wants to change.  A repentant heart is willing to do whatever it takes to live in close communion with God.

True Repentance always prepares us for a deeper place with The Lord.  If you are afraid of repentance, you will never be made holy.

Jesus didn't save us for ourselves.  He didn't redeem us so we could live for ourselves.  He saved us for Him.  The things in our lives that are self-serving and independent are "idolatrous."

"An idol is not an occasional sin; it is something that rules us and makes us it's slave.  For some, fear is an idol; for others it is lust; for still others, it is rebellion or pride.  Whatever challenges Jesus' right to our hearts becomes His enemy, which He will confront.  Because of His jealousy toward us as His bride, in regard to these false gods, the Lord demands we destroy these idols ourselves." Frances Frangipane

Why? God knows that in order for us to fully enjoy His love, the idols of self and sin must be destroyed.

A repentant heart is not just one that's sorry and wants forgiveness.  A repentant heart is one that longs to be holy and will rid itself of everything that steals from our intimacy with God.

Ezekiel 37 | Colossians 3:2

Verse 1:
What if You took all the words we said more seriously, than we do?
If all the things we do to others were done, as if to You?
If we only knew; what we do to You.

Verse 2:
Can we unlearn our behaviour and all the things, we're accustomed to?
Follow through on the promises made in the praises, sung to You?
Devoted to, one another in You.

Verse 3:
If we humbly seek forgiveness in repentance before You, would You...
breath Your breath of life into these dry bones, that we may live in You?
Only in You, breath of life anew.

Verse 4:
Help us Father to willingly meet Your gaze; unrestrained in Your embrace.
To set our affections on the things above, where Christ is?
Cherishing Grace, seeking Your Face.

End:
Breath of Life (3x)
Breath Your Breath of Life (2x)

Home in Grace
Repentant Heart © 2002

No Specific Scripture Reference, but a whole lot of life experience recently! This song was written September 9, 2002 and how relevant some of the thoughts that birthed these words have become.

Fortunately, we have our hope; that we will go home in grace!

The word "in" is used, rather than "by grace", or "to grace" because we are hidden in Christ Jesus...Colossians 3:3 says that our lives are hid with Christ in God. :-)

Verse 1:
I have seen the light that shines in You,
And I have felt the warmth of Your embrace!
And I have heard what sounded like angels
As Your people were singing God's praise...

Chorus:
And it won't be long now,
Please keep us strong now,
Until You come back to take us home in Grace.

Verse 2:
The torment of our cares in our daily lives,
It can so easily tear us apart.
Please, help us keep our eyes on You,
Magnify Your light in the dark...

Verse 3:
Lord we pray, that we will always serve You;
Serve You in spirit and truth.
Help us Lord, to have compassion,
Practice the love and forgiveness learned from You...

Pour Our Tears in Thy Bottle
Repentant Heart © 2003
Psalm 56:8

For Margaret Williams, a woman of character, and love. May the Lord ease her heartache, and pour her tears into His bottle, and write each one in His book.

Verse 1:
The emptiness we feel inside,
Can be so hard to explain.
When we learn to lean on God,
In our heartache and pain -
Yet we will praise Thy Name,
While we pour out our hearts to Thee

Chorus:
Pour our tears in Thy bottle;
And write them in Thy book.
Pour our tears in Thy bottle;
And write them in Thy book.
For our hope is in Thee Alone
And we find our refuge at the foot of Thy Throne

Verse 2:
The nights seem so much longer
While You heal our pain.
The confusion and grief
Slowly give way to small joys.
Still we praise Thy name
Still we pour out our hearts to Thee

Verse 3:
This we know that God is for us;
In Whom we put our trust.
We bring our tears as offerings
That we may walk before our God.
Yes we will praise Thy name
For You have heard our hearts cry to Thee

Be Still
Repentant Heart © 2003
Lamentations 3:22-28 | Psalm 46:10

This is an instrumental to aid in meditation, reflection and for being still before the Lord.

Give 3 minutes and 16 seconds to the Lord! In Quite reflection.

"Be Still, and know the I am God"

As the scripture indicates, it is good to be silent, and wait on the Lord - since He has has laid it on our hearts.

Open your heart, mind and soul to the Lord God Almighty - as He meets you where you are; with all your baggage, fears and doubts...

Confessions of Love
Repentant Heart © 2003
James 1: 6 | Romans 10: 9-10 | Romans 10:17

Oh Lord, we’re not able
To keep this boat stable
Tossed to and fro, on the waves of our doubt
Your Grace alone is able
To speak the calm that enables
The stepping outside our comfort zone

Chorus:
It’s our hearts that believe
It’s our minds that You set free
It’s our lips that speak
The hope of Your love
It’s our hands that You raise up
It’s our eyes that You focus while shut
It’s our ears that hear
Your confessions of love

Oh Lord You are able
To provide a bountiful table
To majestically clothe us in Your embrace
No grave can contain us
When Your Son Jesus, hails us
To come and meet our Lord in the air

Trust and Obey

Trust and Obey
Hymn 349 by John H. Sammis; Arranged Repentant Heart
Romans 16:26

Verse 1:
When we walk with the Lord in the light of His Word,
What a glory He sheds on our way;
While we do His good will He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.

Refrain:
Trust and obey,
for there's no other way
To be happy in Jesus,
But to trust and obey.

Verse 2:
Not a shadow can rise, not a cloud in the skies,
But His smile quickly drives it away;
Not a doubt nor a fear, not a sigh nor a tear,
Can abide if we trust and obey.

Verse 3:
Not a burden we bear, not a sorrow we share,
But our toil He doth richly repay;
Not a grief nor a loss, not a frown nor a cross,
But is blest if we trust and obey.

Verse 4:
Bet we never can prove the delights of His love
Until all on the altar we lay;
For the favour He shows and the joy He bestows,
Are for them who will trust and obey.

Verse 5:
Then in fellowship sweet we will sit at His feet,
Or we'll walk by His side in the way;
What He says we will do, where He sends we will go -
Never fear, only trust and obey.

There is a Redeemer
Hymn 206 by Melody Green; Arranged Repentant Heart
I Corinthians 1:30

In Memory of Ken Williams, who passed away last Friday;
An incredible person that I barely knew, always putting off getting to know him better until a more opportune time.

There is a Redeemer,
Jesus, God's own Son;
Precious Lamb of God,
Messiah, Holy One.

Refrain:
Thank You, oh, my Father
For giving us Your Son,
And leaving Your Spirit
'Til the work on earth is done.

Jesus, my Redeemer
Name above all names;
Precious Lamb of God,
Messiah, O for sinners slain.

When I stand in Glory,
I will see His Face,
There I'll serve my King forever
In that holy place.

Lead Me
Repentant Heart © 2001
2 Corinthians 3:14-18

Verse 1:
Find me here, on bended knee
In the face of adversity
Lord I come, to share
My heart with You.
In broken spirit, cluttered mind;
Clarity and peace, I hope to find
Ears not hearing; a wandering mind
Lord, can you lead me?

Chorus:
Lead me in the praise of the Father.
Lead me in the worship of the Son.
Lead me, far from my destruction
Lead me in weakness;
Lord make me strong!

Verse 2:
Silent nights, I stare into space.
Watching and waiting, doubting Your grace.
Waking hours, slumber in despair -
Can You, wake me?
Teach me Lord, to forget myself
Lift the veil, that covers my heart.
Help me Lord in my weak faith,
Help me, believe in You!

I Choose
Repentant Heart, Gordon Kouwenberg © 2002
Deuteronomy 7:7-8 | Psalm 139:14 | Isaiah 7:15-16

Joshua 24:14-15
"Now fear the Lord and serve Him with all faithfulness. Throw away the gods your forefathers worshipped... and serve the Lord. But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve... But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord."

Verse 1:
Lord, our holy God and King
With wonder formed us in the womb
Father, You chose us first in love
Gave the gift that we should choose
[So I say...]

Chorus:
I choose the Lord,
I choose the cross,
I choose to serve the Lord!
I choose in faith,
I choose to pray,
I Choose to serve the Lord, my God!

Verse 2:
Jesus paid the debt we owe.
Even He, given the freedom to choose.
Butter and honey, they fed His soul
After evil He refused
[Choosing Good, He said...]

Verse 3:
So this day, we must also choose;
Taste and see that the Lord is good.
Choose the God Whom we will serve;
Serve in faithfulness and truth.
[Will the people say...]

What Love is This?

What Love is This?
Repentant Heart © 2001 | 2 Cor 5: 18-21

What love is this, to fathom and see
What love is this, which so few defend
What love is this, for the innocent to be
Counted as guilty, so that we can go free

What love is this, that a Father’s heart
Could be shred and torn, like old rags apart
What love is this, in a Father’s sight
To allow the death of His radiant light

What love is this, of which the Bible tells
That has the power to conquer Hell
What love is this, given for free
For those who accept is a guarantee

This love is Jesus, in our place died
That in His blood, our sin He could hide
Brought back to life, now petitions and pleas
Giving grace from the Father, for eternity

Come now and sing of the love we know well
Descending from Heaven to wage war on Hell
Rose the third day, snatching the keys
That unlocks our chains, sets us all free

Worthy is the lamb who was slain (x3)

Squint
Gordon Kouwenberg,
Repentant Heart © 2003
2 Cor 3: 14-18  | Matt 27: 51-52 | Mark 15: 38 | Luke 23: 44-45
1 Cor 13: 12

Where’s the colour in this world?
Seeing through the glass darkly,
We trade the truth for shades of grey.
We’ve all but extinguished,
Those tongues of fire,
That sealed our baptism of grace.

Chorus:
Squint through the darkness of sin,
And you shall see Him.
Squint through the veil of injustice,
And you shall find Him.
Squint through the mask of indifference,
And you shall be more like Him.

Perhaps callousness and pride,
Limit our knowledge,
We tuck our emotions safely inside.
Jesus is our example.
Revealing God’s Kingdom,
To his servants the mystery unfolds

Can you hear your Saviour call?
Take the road less travelled,
We gain nothing if we lose our soul.
In Jesus we discover,
True freedom and purpose
Living as those gifted and called
